TARRANT COUNTY ISSUES A BAN ON OUTDOOR BURNING

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court approved an outdoor burning ban on Thursday, August 13, 2026, for unincorporated Tarrant County. The order bans outdoor burning without the express approval of the Tarrant County Fire Marshal’s Office. This ban remains in effect for 90 days, excluding cooking, welding, and the use of fire pits for social gatherings.

The severe drought conditions in unincorporated areas of Tarrant County prompted the Fire Marshal’s request for the ban in the interest of protecting lives and property across Tarrant County. The Texas A&M Forest Service supports the request for an outdoor burning ban.

A violation of the court order prohibiting outdoor burning is a Class C Misdemeanor and carries a fine of up to $500.

Tarrant County Fire Marshal Kenny Wilson recommends residents in rural areas maintain a 30-foot perimeter mowed around homes and outbuildings, in addition to clearing combustible debris and vegetation to prevent fires from reaching structures. Wilson also recommends having a functional water hose nearby in the event of small fires.
