Typing Test Procedures
Typing tests are administered by invitation only. Prior to a typing test being administered, an application for a position requiring a typing test must be completed and must be on file for an open posting. You must take and pass the required typing test at the posted speed for the position which you have applied for. Typing tests will only be administered to applicants who have submitted an application prior to the closing date. Typing test procedures are as follows:
- Typing tests are administered by invitation only.
- After the review of your application, if the hiring department wishes to conduct an interview, you will be contacted by Human Resources to schedule a typing test. If you already have a valid typing test score you will not have to retake the typing test.
- Typing test scores are valid for two years. Employee typing test scores, however, have no expiration date.
- Applicants who have been contacted for a typing test may take up to four tests, per invitation, and will be given five business days from the initial date of contact to take the test(s).

Candidate Selection Process
Applications are screened by Human Resources based on the minimum requirements for the position(s) for which the applicant has applied. Qualified applicants are referred to the appropriate hiring departments. Notification will be sent to applicants regarding the status of the position(s) they have applied for. The hiring department determines which applicant(s) they will interview.

Department of Transportation (DOT) Testing Procedures
Tarrant County has a genuine interest in and concern for the safety and health of its employees. In support of this interest, the County complies with the Drug Free Workplace Act and the Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act. Pre-employment drug testing is required.
Drug testing of employees who perform safety-sensitive functions and who are required to possess a Commercial Driver License, must be tested if they:
- Hold a Commercial Driver License;
- Drive vehicles over 26,001 Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR);
- Drive vehicles placarded by DOT under hazardous material regulations; or
- Drive vehicles designed to transport more than 16 passengers, including drivers.
