How do I apply for employment opportunities? | For a vast majority of Tarrant County positions you may submit a complete job application on-line. If this is your first time using the on-line application, you will need to create an account and select a username and password. After creating your account, you will be able to login and build an application. This application will be saved so that you may use it to apply for multiple jobs if you desire. This is a secure site, and only authorized County employees have access to your information. If you do not have an email account, you can sign up for a free email account at Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or Gmail. |
What if I want to apply on-line but do not have access to a computer? | If you do not have access to a computer, you may go to a public library. |
Can I apply for jobs that are not currently open? |
We only accept applications for positions that are currently open. However, if you have online access, you can complete a Job Interest Card for roles you’d like to be considered for in the future. How will I know if my application has been received? | If you have successfully submitted an application on-line, you will receive confirmation by email immediately. |
May I submit a resume? |
We do not accept resumes in lieu of a completed application. However, you may attach a resume or other required documents to your on-line application. |
How do I access my on-line account once it has been established? | You may access your account by logging on at www.governmentjobs.com or by clicking Application Status. |
How old do I have to be to become employed by the County? | Tarrant County requires its employees to be at least 18 years of age. The Deputy Sheriff position minimum age requirement is 21 years of age. |
How long is a typing test score valid? | Typing test scores are valid for two years. Employee typing test scores, however, have no expiration date. |
How many opportunities do I have to take the typing test? | Applicants who have been contacted for a typing test may take up to four tests, per invitation, and will be given five business days from the initial date of contact to take the test(s). |
How do I prepare for the typing test? | You can take a free typing test on websites such as TypingTest.com, 10fastfingers.com, and Typing.com, which offer immediate results for speed and accuracy. Expected WPM ranges from 35 – 50 WPM. |
Can I request accommodations for testing or interviews? | Yes — you can request accommodations by contacting Human Resources. |
Are there other pre-employment tests besides typing? | Other pre-employment testing include drug testing, background checks, or physical requirements if applicable. |
Are salaries posted for all jobs? | Yes, salaries are posted on each job listing. If a position is accepting applications, the job posting will include the salary information unless otherwise noted. |
Do you give preference to veterans? | No, we do not provide preference to veterans in our selection process. However, we do require all male applicants between the ages of 18 and 25 to be registered with the Selective Service System, as mandated by federal law. |
Do I need to live in Tarrant County to apply? | There are no residency requirements. You do not need to live in Tarrant County to apply for a position. |
