Tarrant County Judge Tim O'Hare

About Judge O'Hare

Tim O’Hare was elected Tarrant County Judge on November 8, 2022, becoming the 33rd individual to serve in this role since the county’s founding in 1849. As County Judge, he serves as the Chief Political Executive of one of the largest and fastest-growing counties in Texas, overseeing critical county operations and guiding policy decisions that impact residents, families, and businesses across the region.

A fifth-generation Texan and lifelong resident of the Metroplex, Judge O’Hare brings both deep regional roots and extensive professional experience to his role. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin in 1991 and a Juris Doctor from SMU School of Law in 1995. Prior to taking office, he spent more than twenty-five years managing a successful law firm and a real estate investment company.

Judge O’Hare’s public service includes leadership at the municipal level, where he served as a City Councilman and later as Mayor of Farmers Branch from 2008 to 2011. During his tenure, he led efforts to reduce government spending, improve public safety, and significantly lower the city’s unfunded pension liability—demonstrating a consistent commitment to fiscal responsibility and accountable governance.

Since taking office as County Judge, O’Hare has focused on responsible stewardship of taxpayer resources, public safety, and long-term economic strength. His administration has implemented the maximum homestead exemption allowed by the State of Texas for the first time in Tarrant County, reduced the county’s operating budget by more than $81 million, increased funding for law enforcement, and led initiatives aimed at eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse. These efforts have contributed to the largest tax cuts in the county’s history while maintaining essential services.

Judge O’Hare is guided by a belief in limited, responsible government and the importance of creating an environment where families and businesses can thrive. His leadership reflects a commitment to ensuring that Tarrant County remains the safest large county in Texas and a place where opportunity and the American Dream are alive and well.

He and his wife, Christen, live in Southlake with their four daughters. They are active members of First Baptist Grapevine, where they volunteer in the children’s ministry, and Judge O’Hare serves as a Deacon. He is also actively involved in coaching youth sports and values time spent with his family.

Judge O’Hare approaches public service with a clear sense of purpose: to preserve and strengthen a community where faith, family, and freedom are not only respected, but actively supported—ensuring Tarrant County is the best place in Texas to live, work, and raise a family.
