TARRANT COUNTY JUDGE TIM O'HARE
The County Judge is elected to a four-year term as the Chief Political Executive of the county. The County Judge presides over the county's policy-making body, the Commissioners Court. The Commissioners Court adopts the county budget, sets county and JPS tax rates, oversees building and maintaining county infrastructure, and many other functions and agencies in Tarrant County.
In Tarrant County, the County Judge serves as the Chair of the Election Commission, Chair of the Workforce Governing Board, and as a member of the several other boards including the Election Board, the North Central Texas Council of Governments Executive Board, the Bail Bond Board, and the Juvenile Board. The County Judge also has the authority to make appointments to countywide boards and commissions. Under Texas law, the County Judge has Emergency Management Authority over the entire county. In counties with a population of less than 225,000, the County Judge serves in a judicial capacity. However, since Tarrant County has a population of over 2,180,000, the role of the County Judge is that of a Chief Executive, overseeing financial, budgetary, and administrative matters.
