One of the major functions of county government is to build and maintain a network of roads and bridges in the unincorporated areas of the county. In Tarrant County, the four County Commissioners have responsibility for the construction and maintenance of approximately 430 miles of county roads. The Transportation Services Department supports these efforts by providing engineering, planning, environmental and right-of-way acquisition services to each County Commissioner's Precinct and other County Departments. We also have a Striping Crew that maintains pavement markings on all County roads and parking areas. A Sign Shop designs and fabricates a variety of signs and decals. The Survey Crew handles surveying projects in the unincorporated county and for internal County projects, while the Central Garage manages and services a County fleet consisting of more than 500 cars, vans and light duty trucks.
