If you or someone around you needs medical attention, knowing the right place to go helps you find the right care when you need it.

  • Urgent Care — Best for cold and flu symptoms and minor injuries such as sprains, mild dehydration, fever, or minor cuts. If you’re unsure what’s near you, search “urgent care near me” using your phone browser or map app.

  • Call 911 — If someone is in immediate danger, unresponsive, or experiencing a medical emergency.

HEAT SAFETY AND HYDRATION

The Texas heat is no joke, especially during long days of cheering, walking, and outdoor celebrations.

  • Drink water throughout the day. Limit alcohol, caffeine, and sugary drinks, which can lead to dehydration.
  • Take breaks from the sun in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
  • Wear at least SPF 30 sunscreen and reapply every two hours.
  • Know the signs of heat illness and alert a friend or request medical attention as soon as possible:
    • Headache and nausea
    • Fatigue and weakness
    • Slurred speech and loss of consciousness
    • Heavy sweating and high body temperature

Be Mosquito Free

West Nile Prevention

Summertime in Tarrant County is peak mosquito season. These pests can be bothersome and can also carry diseases like West Nile virus in Texas.  Avoid the bite and reduce your risk by:

  • Using EPA‑approved repellent with ingredients such as DEET, picaridin, IR3535, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
  • Wearing loose long sleeves and pants when possible, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.

HOW TO Apply Sunscreen and EPA-Approved Insect Repellent

  1. Apply Sunscreen First
Use a broad‑spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) and apply it to all exposed skin. Allow the sunscreen to fully dry before moving forward.
  2. Apply EPA-Approved Insect Repellent
Apply DEET lightly to exposed areas. Applying DEET after the sunscreen has set helps maintain the sunscreen’s effectiveness and ensures optimal insect protection.
  3. Reapplication guidance
    • Reapply sunscreen every two hours or after swimming, sweating, or toweling off.
    • Reapply repellent only as needed, following the product’s label.

GENERAL HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDANCE

Many types of illnesses can spread from person to person, especially during large events. These simple habits go a long way:

  • Wash or sanitize hands regularly, especially before eating.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze using your elbow or a tissue instead of your hands.
  • Listen to your body. Rest when you need to and seek care if something feels off.
  • Make a plan. Know where you want to go and how you’re going to get there before you leave the door.
  • Stay aware of your surroundings.
  • Stay connected. Share your location with trusted friends or family.
