The Mental Health Court Diversion Program is a pre-trial post-booking diversion program for mentally impaired offenders. It is funded by a Justice Assistance Grant, Tarrant County and Tarrant County Community Supervision and Corrections Department. The program is designed to divert eligible mentally ill offenders from the traditional criminal justice process to appropriate community-based mental health treatment. Once offenders are screened and approved for participation in the diversion program, they begin a treatment program developed toward their individual needs. The treatment program utilizes positive reinforcement and progressive sanctions. The court oversees and participates with a monthly docket that involves all Mental Health offenders, staff, court personnel and their support system of family, friends, and treatment staff.
