Tarrant County Confirms First Measles Cases

May 2, 2025 – (Tarrant County) – Tarrant County Public Health (TCPH) confirms the first positive cases of measles in Tarrant County residents.

The two individuals, an adult and a child, are household members and are unvaccinated. It has not yet been determined where they contracted measles.

At this time, TCPH has identified the two individuals visited the following location while they were contagious:

Methodist Mansfield ER

2700 E Broad Street, Mansfield Texas 76063

Dates: 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, to 3 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025

TCPH is actively investigating additional possible exposure sites and contacts during the individuals’ infectious periods and will share more information as it becomes available.

Individuals who were at the location should monitor themselves from symptoms until May 20, especially for those who are unvaccinated or immunocompromised.

Measles is a highly contagious disease for those not fully vaccinated or immunocompromised. If you were at the venue and were exposed or believe you have contracted measles, contact your healthcare provider immediately and monitor for the following symptoms:

  • High fever, over 101⁰ F
  • Cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes
  • Followed by a red, blotchy rash that typically begins on the face then progresses down the body

If you develop symptoms:

  • Stay home and away from others.
  • Contact your healthcare provider for guidance.
  • Call before visiting a clinic or hospital to prevent possible exposure to others.

Measles is a preventable disease. Two doses of the MMR vaccine is the best protection against contracting the disease. TCPH encourages residents that are unvaccinated or are unsure of their vaccination status to contact their healthcare provider for vaccine recommendations and guidance.

Currently, MMR vaccination recommendations remain unchanged. Vaccines are available through primary healthcare providers and local pharmacies. TCPH also offers vaccines at its six immunization clinics. Residents may schedule an appointment by calling 817-248-6299 or walk in during clinic hours.

Tarrant County Public Health is working closely with local and regional partners to monitor this situation.
