One of Public Health's main goals is to control and prevent the spread of disease. Tarrant County Public Health works on multiple fronts to do this.
Public Health maintains ongoing surveillance, control and prevention efforts for a variety of diseases, some of which are common in Tarrant County. Others are occasional health threats.
Epidemiology and Health Information
This area of Public Health continuously monitors the community's health status, responds to dangerous infectious disease occurrences, maintains health statistics and data-bases of specific diseases, and will mobilize local, state and federal resources when necessary to meet the health needs of individuals and high-risk groups.
Health Informatics maintains multiple surveillance systems that collect data from hospitals and clinics across North Texas and structures health data in ways that facilitate decision-making. This data is shared with community leaders, decision makers and partner agencies.
North Texas Regional Laboratory
Our laboratory routinely tests water, milk and dairy products to ensure consumer safety, performs bacterial and chemical analysis of drinking water to detect harmful metals and organisms, and participates in infectious disease surveillance for the north Texas region.
