About the Behavior Risk Factor Surveillance System
What is the BRFSS?
The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) is a telephone survey that collects information on risk behaviors and prevention practices related to the most common causes of illness and death in the United States. The survey is completed by adults aged 18 years and older.
Why do a BRFSS survey?
Findings from the survey are used to identify health problems, to create and evaluate health programs, to guide policies, and to monitor health trends.
The BRFSS in Tarrant County
It is a unique project in that few counties have local data of this quality. A total of six BRFSS surveys have been completed in Tarrant County: 1998, 2004, 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2024.
