Abandoned or Unclaimed Property
The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office Property and Evidence Division, in accordance with Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 18.17 as it relates to the Disposition of Abandoned or Unclaimed Property, is hereby giving notice to the public of the listed items.
If the owner does not claim this property before the 90th day after the date of this notice, the property will be disposed of in a manner as described in Article 18.17.
Proof of Ownership Required
For items with an unknown owner such as found property and recovered stolen property, claimant may provide proof of ownership in any of the following ways:
- Verify the serial number of the item.
- Present a dated receipt of purchase of the item.
- Present a prior stolen/lost property report with a police agency for the item.
- Show a photograph with him/herself and the item in it.
- Describe unique characteristics of the item.
- Provide an access code or combination to unlock the item.
- A Judge’s signed order for the item.
- A written release from the assigned detective/investigator on the case.
- A death certificate and Will for the original owner.
For items with a known owner such as evidence in a case, return to owner items, or court order returned items, the claimant’s name will be listed with the item.
To pick up any item, all claimants must present a valid driver’s license or state issued photo ID card and set up an appointment by calling 817-884-2000 during business hours. No unscheduled walk-ins will be allowed.
If the owner does not claim the property before the 90th day after the date of the notice on each item, the property will be disposed of and, after deducting the reasonable expense of keeping the property and the costs of the disposition, any proceeds from a sale will be deposited in the treasury of Tarrant County. If the item is sold after the 90th day, it will be listed on the auction site Rene Bates Auctioneers, Inc.
