Free Flu Shots at Local Pharmacies for Uninsured Tarrant County Residents

Free Pop-up flu vaccine clinic on Wed, Oct. 27

Oct. 26, 2021 - (Tarrant County) – Tarrant County Public Health is now offering free flu shots to the uninsured through partner pharmacies through March 31, 2022. The free flu shots are available at more than 60 participating pharmacy locations. Through the Expanded Access Program, Tarrant County has partnered with Albertsons, Kroger and Tom Thumb to provide flu shots for the uninsured. The Expanded Access Program was created in 2020 to lower the barriers to access the flu vaccine.

“Tarrant County has put aside $1 million for this Flu Vaccine Expanded Access Program for the uninsured,” says Tarrant County Public Health Director Vinny Taneja. “It is a big investment in expanding preventative services for the uninsured to address health disparities and access to care in Tarrant County.”

Tom Thumb/Albertsons pharmacy, in partnership with Mercy Clinic Fort Worth, will be holding a free pop-up flu vaccination clinic.

Uninsured residents can visit the TCPH Free Flu Vaccine website to find a participating pharmacy location. There are no out-of-pocket costs to the recipient. Tarrant County will reimburse the participating pharmacies for uninsured vaccinations. For those with insurance, most insurance companies cover the flu vaccine as a benefit each year.

Flu is a contagious disease caused by the influenza virus, which spreads by coughing, sneezing, or nasal secretions. Vaccination is recommended for ages six months and older, and for those who are at risk of severe influenza, which are children under age two, persons over 65 years, pregnant women and persons with chronic conditions.
