Woman's Wednesday Club of Fort Worth Collection
HISTORICAL NOTE
The Woman's Wednesday Club is one of the oldest continuously functioning clubs in Fort Worth. Founded in 1889 as a group which encouraged the arts and literature, members were key original sponsors of the Fort Worth Library Association, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Association, and the Fort Worth Art Association which later became the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth.
The Woman's Wednesday Club first met in a room in the Spring Palace (1889-1890), establishing the first Woman's Club Room in Fort Worth. They later met at Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in the Neil Anderson Building, Hendrick Building, and the Art Gallery of the Carnegie Library before moving to its present location in 1923. In 1923, the Woman's Club of Fort Worth was established and the Wednesday Club was named as one of the original charter clubs, and began meeting at the Woman's Club building located at 1316 Pennsylvania Ave. In 2013, the Woman's Wednesday Club donated their historical materials to the Tarrant County Archives.
The '62 Club was a charter club of the Woman's Club of Fort Worth, founded in 1962 with the objective of studying cultural and scientific subjects. The club was active in hosting speakers and outings to educate its members on specific topics. The '62 Club disbanded around 2020.
