Judge Curnutt Bio

Judge Mary Tom Cravens Curnutt is a principled, dedicated, fifth generation Arlington resident committed to the long-term success and integrity of our community, and in particular the Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Court -- individually and as a component of Tarrant County, Texas.  Those who know Judge Curnutt agree she is a committed mother, a devoted wife, a successful businesswoman and manager, a faithful friend and a dedicated community volunteer capable of managing a high-volume court, and making many tough, smart decisions all day long using her conservative values, her common sense, a solid pursuit of justice and liberty, and guidance in truth.

Judge Curnutt took the bench in May 2013, to fill the remaining term of retiring Judge Linda Bierman Davis and has been re-elected to serve through 2022.  Her court processes approximately 15,000 cases each year.  The Precinct 2 JP Court in Arlington is a particularly busy court, consistently handling more civil lawsuits than any other court in Tarrant County, as well as most every other county in Texas.  In addition to civil cases, JP2 Court also handles failure to attend for Arlington Independent School District as well as other school districts, eviction lawsuits, TXDPS license suspension and revocation hearings, and a plethora of other types of cases.  The job as our JP requires the ability to fairly, respectfully and objectively decide and resolve hundreds of disputes each month. It also requires the skill and motivation to effectively manage a high-volume business, the background and community experience to communicate with all sectors of our society, and the desire and integrity to successfully represent and serve the citizens of Tarrant County.

Judge Mary Tom Cravens Curnutt was raised in Arlington, Texas and educated through the Arlington ISD.  After graduation Magna Cum Laude from Arlington High School, Judge Curnutt went west to TCU, where she was elected president of her sorority, made the Dean’s List and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration.   Thereafter, she married her high school sweetheart, Kelly Curnutt, and moved east for work in Dallas.  In 10 years with Software Spectrum, she quickly worked her way up from the ground floor to sales director, leading a $20 million-a-year sales team, helping to train the sales staff at the company’s first international branch in Dublin, Ireland, and being awarded Employee of the Year out of  more than 1,000 employees.

After earning her stripes in the business world, Judge Curnutt and her husband Kelly moved back to Arlington to start and raise their family.  While the Curnutt’s have three sons, they were also blessed with several “bonus boys” and friends over the years that kept the house hopping with testosterone.   Mary Tom and Kelly have been laughingly known to say that raising a bunch of boys requires a referee’s whistle, a 2”x4”, and a lot of love. The Curnutts were gifted with a perfect Daughter in-law who is helping to balance out the Boys!

Through her integrity, strong work ethic and life experiences, Judge Curnutt has developed into:

·       A successful businesswoman and manager, with strong organizational, people and technical skills;

·       A dedicated school and community volunteer, coordinator and leader;

·       An active, caring, and involved mother and wife in a home committed to teaching and living conservative values; and

·       A Judge who successfully presides over hundreds of court cases every month in one of the busiest courts throughout all 254 Texas counties
