The Reserve Unit is composed of 38 highly dedicated individuals from all occupations and walks of life who dedicate a portion of their time to community service by working as volunteers with the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office.

The Tarrant County Reserve Deputies, just like full-time deputies, are required to perform many duties, including but not limited to: the arrest and control of suspects, crowd control, traffic enforcement and crime scene security. Reserve Deputies primarily support and supplement the Patrol Division, however, they may assist other divisions when necessary. Members train to maintain all required certification and proficiency skills. Required training hours are offered by the Sheriff’s Office, but are the responsibility of the individual reserve officer to obtain.

Members of the Tarrant County Sheriffs’ Reserve Unit are required to donate a minimum of 16 hours a month service and attend Reserve Unit meetings -- generally held one night bimonthly. Uniforms are furnished but members must provide their own weapon and leather gear in accordance with Sheriff Office policies.
