Tarrant County will present a balanced budget with a proposed reduction in the County tax rate for Fiscal Year 2022.
The budget includes a 2.1 percent reduction the County tax rate from 0.234 to 0.229.
The proposed lower tax rate is below the “no new revenue” rate proposed by State law, thereby reducing the burden on Tarrant County homeowners.
Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley said the FY 2022 budget shows fiscal restraint.
“Once again, Tarrant County is leading with fiscal responsibility and a focus on taxpayers,” Whitley said. “Because your County government only collects property taxes, as opposed to sales or other taxes, this decrease is a reflection of the County’s commitment to a strategic and disciplined budgeting process. The largest portion of a resident’s property tax bill is public education, which is a state responsibility. We will always do everything we can to lower the tax rate while providing quality services, but true tax relief must always include a conversation about the state’s responsibilities.”
Tarrant County Precinct 1 Commissioners Roy Charles Brooks said the County is in good financial shape after weathering the uncertainty caused by COVID-19.
“Even through a pandemic, the economy in Tarrant County is strong,” said Tarrant County Precinct 1 Commissioner Roy Charles Brooks. “With the strength of our economy, it makes it appropriate to pass along those savings to Tarrant County taxpayers.”
The Budget meeting will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 9 in the Commissioners Courtroom on the fifth floor of the County Administration Building, 100 East Weatherford Street, Suite 502A.
