Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Collection

Historical Note

In Texas, county Tax Assessors are responsible for assessing values of property within the county while Tax Collectors are responsible for collection of tax payments. In Tarrant County the position of Assessor and Collector were sometimes combined and sometimes held by two separate people. Since 1948, the two jobs have been held by a single elected official, the Tax Assessor-Collector.

The Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector's Office has made various donations to the Archives since 1991.

Scope and Contents

The Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Collection contains various materials related to the work of the office. Materials include records such as tax rolls and tax assessments, publications of abstracts of original land titles and civil statutes, reports, maps, land records, artifacts, and photographs. Materials date from 1879 to 2023.
