Tarrant County Tax Assessor-Collector Collection

Summary: Donor gave 30 large volumes of Assessment Rolls of Property from 1879-1890. Each volume gives property owner name, name of survey where property is located, assessment value, tax rendered, and some listings of personal property such as wagons, buggies, horses, and mules. A few volumes give records for non-residents' ownership of county land, which includes listings for railroad companies and their local property. The donor also gave the following artifacts and books.

  • Commercial and Library Atlas of the World, with explanatory and descriptive articles by Frederick K. Branum, B.E., M.S., PhD, Twelfth Edition, Chicago: Geographical Publishing Company, 1948.
Ledger
  • "Cost Book": Cost Sheets for Taylor Building Company, for the building of the Tarrant County Jail at 200 Belknap in 1917 and 1918. This is a detailed, itemized account of all expenses involved with the contractor. The Taylor Building Company was owned by James T. Taylor and was one of the biggest contractors at the time.
