Death records are confidential for 25 years from the date of the event.
Birth and death certificates may be issued to immediate family members--mother, father, brother, sister, parent, grandparent or child. In addition, a certificate may be obtained by a legal guardian, legal representative of the family, and organizations or governmental agencies that have a direct tangible need for the record.
A certified copy of a birth or death certificate can be obtained in person, by mail request, or online using VitalChek.
A current government-issued picture identification is required to obtain a certified copy.
