Healthcare Benefits

Your health and well-being matter to us. As a Tarrant County employee, you have access to a variety of high-quality benefit options through the Public Employee Benefits Cooperative (PEBC).

About PEBC

In 1998, Tarrant County joined with other local governments to form the PEBC, a purchasing coalition that helps members get better benefits at a lower cost. PEBC negotiates plans and provides cost-effective administration for employees and their families.

What’s Included

Eligible employees can choose from a wide range of programs:

  • Medical Plans: Two options, including a PPO and a High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP) with a Health Savings Account (HSA).

  • Dental Plans: Two levels of coverage to fit your needs.

  • Vision Plan: Affordable coverage for eye exams, glasses, and contacts.

  • Life Insurance: Basic life and dependent life coverage, with optional additional coverage available.

  • Disability Coverage: Short- and long-term disability options to protect your income.

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): Use pre-tax dollars for medical and dependent care expenses.

  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP): Confidential counseling, legal and financial guidance, and mental health resources.

  • Wellness Program: Health screenings, fitness challenges, and resources to help you stay healthy.

Eligibility and Enrollment

  • Who is Eligible: Full-time employees are eligible for coverage, as well as their eligible dependents (spouse and children).

  • When Coverage Begins: Benefits start the first day of the month following 30 consecutive days of active employment.

  • Enrollment Periods: You can enroll when first hired, during the annual Open Enrollment period, or after a qualifying life event (such as marriage, birth/adoption, or loss of other coverage).

Cost and Contributions

Tarrant County shares the cost of your medical coverage. You pay your portion of the premium, as well as the cost for any elected options such as dependent medical, dental, or vision coverage. Premiums are deducted from your paycheck — often on a pre-tax basis.
