Summary: Donor descended from Abe Harris, who was stationed at the Fort of Fort Worth in 1849. He was also related to the Jennings family, descended from Sara Grey and Thomas Jefferson Jennings. Other living relatives include Hal Jennings and Gretchen Denny. Lynn Ligon, a direct descendant of Abe Harris (1824-1915), who served as Sergeant Major at the Fort called Worth under Major Ripley Arnold, donated four volumes two of which he stated belonged to Abe Harris while serving at the Fort in 1849 and two of which belonged to Abe Harris after the Civil War.

  • Bible: New Testament; numerous inscriptions on inside cover including Lillie S. Harris and the date Nov. 12th 1832,  “British and Foreign Bible Society” embossed on front cover, undated but believed to be as old as the hymnal
  • Bible: The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments, American Bible Society New York, 1867; in pencil on inside cover “Col. Abe Harris book, 1872” leather bound, ornately embossed with “BIBLE” gold stamped on spine
  • Book: History of the Christian Religion to the Year Two Hundred by Charles B. Waite, A.M., Second Edition, Chicago C. V. Waite and Company, 1881; in pencil on inside cover “Abe Harris Book, Aug. 12th 1884”
  • Hymnal: Hymns and Songs Mostly from Various Authors with a Few that Have Not Been Published Before, Halifax, printed by E. J. Jacob MDCCLXXII (Price: Two Shillings), leather binding, 1772; various names including Harris penned on inside cover (shown above)
