Historical Note

The Texas Electric Service Company (TESCO) was established in 1929 after organizing the Fort Worth Power and Light Company and the old Texas Electric Service Company (1926-1929) into one integrated company capable of providing dependable electric services in Fort Worth and west Texas. Fort Worth was established as the headquarters for the company, which acquired many smaller electric companies as it grew. The company owned and operated numerous generating substations, switching substations, and powerlines across west and north Texas.

In 1984, Texas Electric Service Company merged with Texas Utilities Electric Company, which later became TXU.

Walter E. Payne worked at the Texas Electric Services Company in Fort Worth, Texas from 1939 until 1980 and became Superintendent of Production.
