Historical Note

The Tarrant County Historical Society was founded in 1897 under the name The Old Settlers and Historical Society. In 1924, the group reorganized as the Fort Worth Historical Society, and then again in 1940. In 1948, one last reorganizations changed the name to The Tarrant County Historical Society, and established the Society's mission, which remains intact today. The Society actively presents a series of programs on Fort Worth and Tarrant County history and awards small grants for projects to enrich historical knowledge, preserve historical sites and historical places, or to facilitate access to historical materials related to Tarrant County.
