VA Home Loan Guarantee

VA offers home loan guarantees for eligible veterans that may result in lower interest rates, loan origination and closing costs. THIS IS NOT A LOAN, BUT A GUARANTEE. The veteran is required to submit a "Certificate of Eligibility" issued by the VA to the lending institution of their choice to verify eligibility for the loan guarantee. You can get a Certificate of Eligibility known as COE in any of three ways:

A. Apply online.  To get your Certificate of Eligibility known as COE online, please go to the eBenefits portal. If you already have login credentials, click the Login box, and if you need login credentials, please click the Register box and follow the directions on the screen. If you need any assistance, please call the eBenefits Help Desk at 1-800-983-0937.

B. Apply by mail.  Use VA Form 26-1880. Return it to the address shown on the form. If you can't print the form, just call 1-888-768-2132 and follow the prompts for Eligibility. The form will be mailed to you.  You can also get the form off the Internet using Google.

C. Apply through the lender.  In many cases, lenders can obtain a certificate online in minutes.

Once you receive the Certificate of Eligibility, take it to the lender, bank, credit union, etc., that you are trying to secure a loan from and tell them you want to get a home loan using the VA's Home Loan Guaranty program.
