Longtime Fort Worth resident, Frances Marion Allen (1908-1997), was the daughter of Dr. James Walter Allen and Dr. Frances Daisy Emery Allen. The 1864 Allen log cabin, which the donor helped preserve, still stands in White Settlement. Donor’s mother, Dr. Daisy Emery Allen became the first woman to receive a medical degree in Texas from Fort Worth University Medical College. She taught at Fort Worth Medical College, and became one of the first female doctors in Tarrant County, practicing from 1913 until retiring in 1950. In 1988, the donor and her sister, Sheila Allen, gave 36.3 acres of conservation easement to the City of Fort Worth, which became the James K. Allen Nature Sanctuary.
