HISTORICAL NOTE

The City of Mansfield Planning Department administers regulations for land use and development in Mansfield, Texas. Mansfield is located in the southeast portion of Tarrant County and within the lines of Tarrant, Ellis, and Johnson Counties. The Department has worked with the Mansfield City Council and Historic Landmark Commission on various historic preservation projects. One such project was a preservation plan implemented in 1999.

In 1995, former Planning Department Director Felix Wong initiated an oral history project in collaboration with the Mansfield Historical Society and Bethlehem Baptist Church. It was funded by a Certified Local Government grant of the National Park Service, Mansfield Historical Society, and Bethlehem Baptist Church. The goal of the project was to record the stories and experiences of Mansfield's African American residents who had lived in the area since the early 1900s.
