Even before the creation of the Community Health Equity and Inclusion division, Tarrant County Public Health has been involved in community efforts, agencies and organizations that promote diversity and health equity. Some of these activities were single events, others are ongoing.

The African American Health Expo group is a not-for-profit group of volunteers who have come together to make a difference in the community. With the help of all the wonderful sponsors over the years they are been able to provide various health screenings and services for free or very little cost to the African American community.

The Children's Oral Health Coalition

In the North Texas region, 88% of parents believe preventive dental care is important, but only 75% realize that dental health also affects our overall health. An important fact: 10% of children are not getting all the dental care they need. Cook Children's Hospital knows that children with dental problems have poorer general health and the Children's Oral Health Coalition helps them improve dental health by sharing information from experts and the community.

The Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County

The Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County began as the Fatherhood Initiative, organized in 2000 by the Tarrant County Workforce Development Board (dba Workforce Solutions for Tarrant County) which later joined forces with a community-based effort to form the Fatherhood Coalition of Tarrant County. Over  the years, the Coalition  Executive Board has chosen to remain a community of  organizations rather than become a 501(c)3. The Coalition operates on a limited budget and  also actively participates in community events.

Mental Health Connection (MHC) of Tarrant County is a collaboration of dues-paying members committed to revolutionizing the mental health service system by developing long-term systemic changes while addressing emerging needs within our community.

My Health My Resources (MHMR) of Tarrant County

My Health My Resources of Tarrant County (MHMR) is the second-largest community center in Texas. Services include:

  • Mental Health
  • Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
  • Addiction / Substance Use
  • Child and Family Services
  • Early Childhood Intervention (ECI)
  • Criminal Justice Support
  • Veterans
  • Homelessness

MHMR staff are clinical and administrative professionals, including nurses, social workers, therapists and case managers who provide services at more than 50 locations across North Texas in conjunction with our partners in the public and private sector.

United Way of Tarrant County, BRAVE/R Together

United Way of Tarrant County, Braver Together logos

United Way of Tarrant County and BRAVE/R Together have partnered for an equity inclusion project that focuses on the Morningside, Hillside and the Historic Southside neighborhoods in the 76104 Tarrant County ZIP code.

The BRAVE/R Together project is a collaboration of nonprofits, public officials, community leaders and the private sector working to support neighborhoods in 76104, to the east of I-35W, that experience disparities in education, healthcare, housing and unemployment.
